A Culture of Tribalism

I expect that many of us have felt part of a "tribe," a group we feel a part of, which helps give us self-definition, and allows us to feel part of a greater whole. When that sense becomes solidified into tribalism, though, there's trouble. We'll talk about that today. Special music will be a Sephardic song presented by Heidi Woofenden, Patty Simon, and Polly Jacobson.
Plymouth County is currently in the LOW (green) risk level for Covid.
Masks are optional, but always acceptable and welcome.
Anyone experiencing virus symptoms or with known exposure is asked to worship with us online and refrain from other building use.

We’ve Almost Completed Postcarding to Georgia Voters!
Quite a few folks in the congregation have been writing postcards to voters in Georgia to help motivate them to participate in the primary there on May 21. Just a few cards in our stack of 500 are still outstanding. The rest have been mailed. Please be sure to return your cards to Lois on Sunday, April 28, even if you haven’t completed them. Can you contribute postcard stamps (no flags) or money to purchase them?
How Do We Choose Our Parish Committee?
The end of the church year is drawing near and we can be proud of all we have accomplished. Our church board – the Parish Committee (PC) – has been very busy all year, working to streamline procedures and manage all the needs of the church, from keeping our beautiful building in good shape to supporting programs and special events.
Calling All Cooks, Bakers, and Helpers for Spring Gala!
On Saturday, April 27, for our Spring Gala, we need help. For Tapas: We need small appetizers that will be set up at “stations;” and since we have chafing dishes, they can be warm and, of course, you can bring food in crock pots. So far we have 4 commitments. Think of something interesting you can make/prepare and serve for that night before the show.

Music Sunday at UU Middleboro is an annual springtime tradition, a chance to develop some musings into a worship service for the congregation. When I shuffle through the 15 annual Music Sunday files in my cabinet, I’m struck by the variety of music and topics we’ve explored. One of the earliest involved a congregational survey of favorite songs. Last year we presented a masterwork with John Rutter’s multi-movement “Requiem.” We’ve focused on Maya Angelou, Paul McCartney, and Paul Basler. We’ve created programs around themes, such as color palettes, inner instruments, and transformation.
Come to Ferry Beach Conference Center August 11-17 for a fabulous week of musical learning and sharing at the beach in beautiful Saco, Maine! The Cash in the Plate for the month of April will be divided evenly among three “get out the vote” organizations: Movement Voter Project, The Workers Circle, and Working America.
Expressing Thanks We have much to be grateful for at UU Middleboro, from Sunday services that engage the mind and heart to coffee hour times for socializing, to those who care for the Memorial Garden, those who make sure the building remains in good repair, those who rehearse on Tuesday evenings to be able to be in good voice for singing in the choir on Sundays.
In 2011 our church music community started something called “Caring Choir,” designed to bring the uplifting gift of music to members and friends who are homebound. A Caring Choir is made up of singers from any of our choirs – Chalice, Ensemble, Alumni, Family, and Song Circle. A Caring Choir may range in size from a few singers to a larger group, depending on the individual request and how large a space is available. We bring familiar and comforting music from our two hymnals: Singing the Living Tradition and Singing the Journey. Sometimes we can accommodate additional requests. Christmas Carols can be worked into a lovely program, as well as songs from the folk-music resource Rise Up Singing.
A Note from the DREPlease consider joining us for one of our RE classes. All our children this year are “Building Bears of Wholeness” and collecting badges that support our values. Our goals for our children are to have time for faith, fellowship, food and fun; and we work hard to provide this! There are always new bears for newcomers no matter the age or how long they join us. We have a nursery with two babysitters each week for young children and infants as well as a Religious Exploration class for children. Enrollment is ongoing and can be completed
