CANDLELIT VIGIL FOR ORLANDO VICTIMS
THURSDAY, JUNE 16, AT 7:00 P.M.
MIDDLEBORO TOWN HALL GREEN
The first wave of horror has receded, and more details are emerging about the Orlando massacre. In the midst of our grief and anger, we are hungry for those details, as if knowing more can help us understand something that should never have to be understood because it should never happen. My heart aches for the victims and their loved ones, and for all of us whose memories of past violence have risen front and center to shake our emotional foundations today. This is a time to seek comfort in one another; to offer thoughts and prayers and blood donations and whatever we can think of to help even at such a distance. Soon it will be time to demand of ourselves and our leaders the strength of will to do whatever it takes to fight such violence born of bigotry and malevolence. We need to be a force for acceptance in public, on the web, in our places of worship, our schools, our workplaces, our communities. But for now, let’s join together and let our presence in some measure offer one another simple support. Please join me for a candlelit vigil on the Town Hall Green at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16.
