Adrienne Williams, musician and story-teller, will be joined by choirs from Middleboro and Bridgewater for “Jubilee: Music & Words Celebrating Spirit” on Sunday, September 29th, at 3:00 in Middleboro.
A unique Jubilee Concert, including drumming, spirituals, gospel music, and storytelling will take place on Sunday afternoon, September 29 at 3:00 at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Middleborough (FUUSM), 25 South Main St. This interactive concert features the Chalice Choir of the FUUSM (under the direction of Susan Hotchkiss), the Choir of First Parish Unitarian Universalist Bridgewater (under the direction of Denise Haskins), and musician/storyteller Adrienne Williams, a gifted member of FUUSM and an administrator at the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps.
The foundation of this Jubilee Concert is the African American Spiritual, a unique folk-genre born through the struggle of slavery. These songs speak of lament, hope, praise, and determination in an on-going testament to the resilience of the human spirit. In 2007 the U.S. Congress declared the Spiritual to be a national treasure.
Jubilee Concert will be held in the lovely and historic sanctuary of the FUUSM. The Church is handicapped accessible. Those in need of the elevator should enter via the sidewalk on the front right side of the building. Someone will be there to assist you if you need it. The suggested donation is $15, and reservations are suggested.
Please call the church office for more information and reservations: 508-923-7757 or 508-947-1935.
