Dear UU Middleboro friends and families,
Four years ago I accepted the position as your Director of Religious Education and it’s been a great four years. You have supported me and the RE Committee as we experimented with a new way of doing RE, bringing it into the sanctuary so that everyone can learn and so that parents in particular understand what their children are learning when they go to their RE classes.
We have focused on our 7 principles, our 6 sources and the social justice issues that arise from our principles. We have used themes such as Superheroes and Star Wars as a way of engaging our children and helping them to see that Unitarian Universalism is relevant, fun and life changing. It’s been a wonderful journey for me and I have learned a great deal from you all and from doing this role.
On Friday I accepted a position at the First Unitarian Church of Worcester as their Director of Faith Development. This is a larger church where I can further develop as a religious educator. I will begin on August 15th so I still have time to help prepare the program for next year and will look forward to seeing many of you at our Myles Standish Cookout (tentatively planned for Saturday Aug 11th).
I am deeply grateful for the support and kindness that I have received at UU Middleboro. It is a very special church with a large heart and it has an impact on the world that is much bigger than its size would suggest.
In particular I would like to thank Rev. Sarah for her four years of support and encouragement, her willingness to try new things and her deep devotion to our RE program and our children and youth.
I am very sad to be leaving Middleboro but I feel that now is a good time to explore new paths and possibilities and I am excited to see what the future brings for us as a family.
James, Matthew and I will miss our Middleboro friends and our Sunday mornings with you.
With much love and gratitude,
