Love and Lasagna – February 7, 2015

Love is in the airIt’s February, and Love is in the air! The Music Committee is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day FUNdraiser called “Love & Lasagne – Wear Red!” There are two parts to this event scheduled Saturday, February 7th — a CONCERT starting at 5:00, and a DINNER starting after the concert, about 6:15. The suggested donation is QUITE reasonable at $10 per segment, and everybody is encouraged to come to one or both. Nobody will be turned away. Laura Stevens is coordinating the lasagne feast, so please contact her directly if you can help with activities in the parish hall: food, set-up, clean-up, etc.

Our concert artist for the 7th is Allie Whitfield, a young rising star with a rich
voice lending itself to a range of styles from Baroque to contemporary American art songs. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and music at Georgetown University and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music in May of 2014. At Longy, Allie was the only vocalist ever to be awarded the Roman Totenberg Award for stellar academic and artistic achievement and deep commitment to the art of music. She also received second place in NEMPAC’s vocal competition, was a prize winner in the Massachusetts bi-annual NATS competition and was a winner in the 2013 Concerto Competition at Longy.

Upcoming performances include appearances with the Boston Ballet and the Cantata Singers Chamber Ensemble. Recent engagements have included work with organizations such as the Treble Chorus of New England, the Athenaeum Museum, the Boston Early Music Festival, Classroom Cantatas, the Norfolk Summer Music Festival and the Franz Schubert Institute in Vienna Austria.

Allie will be bringing us a mixture of styles, including classical (from Bach to Faure), Broadway (from My Fair Lady to Show Boat), new music (from Bernstein to Herbert’s Prima Donna Song), plus touches of jazz, and commentary throughout. Who says you have to go to the big city to get a taste of this kind of culture? Stay in Middleboro and come to church! Saturday, February 7 at 5:00.
