OFF THE PAGE & INTO THE HEART
A STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
with Lisa Rubin
You found just the right story — but it’s stuck in a book! Come learn how to…
Get out from behind the pages
Lift up your central message in the story
Build a relationship with the characters and events in the story
Make the story your own
Connect with your audience!
The focus of this workshop is telling brief but poignant stories for Sunday morning “All Ages Story/Message” or “Children’s Story”. This workshop brings out the storyteller in everyone, and also helps participants develop ways to adapt stories for various audiences and situations.
Lisa Rubin is the Director of Religious Education at First Parish in Bedford, MA. She’s an artful storyteller who has also been invited to share her gift outside of Sunday morning services in coffee houses, public schools, summer camps and senior centers. Lisa has also performed at The Trapp Family Lodge, in Stowe, VT and First Night Burlington (VT).
Lisa loves to share the gift of storytelling and has led Off the Page and into the Heart at the UUA General Assembly, for various UU districts and congregations, at UU summer conferences, for Foster Grandparent Programs and for public school children and teachers. Her storytelling workshop has helped many religious educators, ministers, seminarians, and lay people develop skills to enhance their storytelling, make their stories come alive and hold the attention of young and old.
Each participant will have the opportunity to work on a story. Lisa will have stories, books and resources available for the day. Please feel free to bring any books for the display table that you would like to share.
