SONGS WHEN YOU NEED THEM
“I see songs as armor when you need it. And I see songs as a blessing…. Songs have a function. That’s what I want people to understand. They come to you when you need them,” says singer and songwriter Ysaye Barnwell, as quoted by Kimberly French in her summer 2016 UU World article about Barnwell and the “music of community, resistance, and power.” This morning, come join us in this musical service when Andrea Priest will lead us in songs from our UU hymnals and look at how they can help us when we need them. The songs will be paired with readings from Pema Chödrön’s When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times, which explores how painful emotions can help us cultivate wisdom, compassion, and courage. Andrea, a longtime member of our church, has for many years served in its music ministry and leads the Circle of Music conference each summer at Ferry Beach.
