In Light of Lies
Imagine a world in which there is no alternative to the absolute real: no fiction, no advertisements, no religion, no lies. That was the clever premise of a 2009 movie called “The Invention of Lying.” Life is comically dull by our standards, human interactions are brutally frank, there is no imagination and no hope. Along comes a character who discovers in himself the unique capacity to lie, and through his subsequent shenanigans there is mercy, hope, religion and love (along with great wealth, fame and fortune). In the land of truth, the liar is king. What can we glean from this concept in today’s America? This is a family-friendly service. Special Music will be provided by Marc MacQueen, bass-baritone.
