Rev. Sarah K. Person preaching
Manifest Destiny
There are those who want to rename Columbus Day “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.” They seek to raise awareness of the devastating impact of Colonialism on the oppressed and, in a different way, on the oppressors, that persists to this day. In 2012, Unitarian Universalists from around the world passed a resolution “repudiating the Doctrine of Discovery and calling for study of the doctrine and elimination of its presence from the current-day policies, programs, theologies, and structures of Unitarian Universalism.” This sermon will ask that we challenge the myth of discovery with the truth of its consequences. The Chalice Choir will be singing.
