This year RE is “Exploring Beyond Our Walls” using the moral tales curriculum. The children have collected many marbles/glass gems for their gemstones of goodness. A fire festival, it honors the very first stirrings of Spring, barely perceptible in our terrain but there nonetheless. It is the promise of Spring, even tho there most likely will be cold and wet for another couple of months. The Celtic world honored the goddess Brighid at this time. She later became known as St. Bridget when the lands were christianized. It is also noted as Candlemas and Groundhog Day.

Black History Month will be celebrated with a presentation of “Black History Soldiers, Sailors and Spies’’ presented by Bright Star Touring Theatre from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Middleboro Town Hall. Those attending will be able to experience, celebrate and learn about forgotten heroes and soldiers in Black history. They will see the work of the Buffalo Soldiers and Col. Charles Young as they help settle the American West and some of the nation’s first national parks; join the Tuskegee Airmen as they take flight to help win a battle in World War II and learn about
