Save the Date – March 29: De-Escalation Training

March 29 @ 9:30 am 3:00 pm

Light Lunch Provided

The Social Justice Committee is sponsoring a de-escalation training to members of our interfaith community, town officials, and allies like BCCR. The 5-hour workshop will be presented by IMPACT Boston Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM. IMPACT’s effective communication workshops teach participants how to remain calm when addressing difficult issues with strangers, friends, or family and how to respond effectively to common forms of defensive behavior.

Meg Stone, the executive director of IMPACT Boston (and author of the new book The Cost of Fear) will be leading the training. Two other churches, Middleboro North Congregational UCC and Lakeville UCC, will be co-sponsoring the event with us.

This non-partisan workshop is an invaluable opportunity to learn how to have civil discourse with people whose views may differ from our own.  Meanwhile, Meg Stone has written a book, The Cost of Fear: Why Most Safety Advice Is Sexist and How We Can Stop Gender-Based Violence. It is set to release on February 25 and is available for pre-purchase from Beacon Press or https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-cost-of-fear-why-most-safety-advice-is-sexist-and-how-we-can-stop-gender-based-violence-meg-stone/21511294?ean=9780807016220&next=t&affiliate=108885

Note: The church calendar contains some events that are not open to everyone, so that we can plan for building use. Open events are shown on the home page. Click on an event to show the full description.
