Full Moon Meditation

This Full Moon falls in the sign of Capricorn, the cosmic sea goat, and is ruled by Saturn, the planet of tasks, rules and limitation. This Full Moon falls also on the eve of our country’s celebration of independence, when it claimed its freedom from the country that birthed it and set its sights on a course of creating a better way for its citizens, free from the yoke of limitation and fealty to a distant crown. It had lofty goals and aspirations at that time. Fast forward almost 250 years, and we find ourselves once again fighting for basic human rights, for freedoms we thought we had won and now need to defend and fight for once more. We are in as much turmoil as a nation now as we were back then.  

The present threat to freedom, however, does not come from across the ocean. It lives on our own soil. Join us tonight as we consider what freedom means to us. What and who are we willing to fight for? What are we prepared to put on the line or lose in the process?How far are we willing to go to stand up for what we say we believe? If we are afraid alone, can we see ourselves doing it with others? How far have we fallen from what the founding fathers envisioned in 1776? Can we imagine taking those lofty ideals that never really took root and finally bringing them to fruition? Can we do it? Can we afford not to? Are we willing to try?  Let’s examine these questions tonight together under the spotlight of the Full Moon.
