Join us for an enlightening series of webinars that shed light on the unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement. These five activists worked tirelessly behind the scenes to advance the cause of racial equality and social justice. Through their dedication and perseverance, they made significant contributions that helped shape the course of history.
The series features:
May 29, 2024 (Film Screening) and June 5th ConversationDorothy Cotton: An educator and leader in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) who worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and played a crucial role in the Citizenship Education Program.
On May 29th, we’ll screen the new documentary about Dorothy Cotton: Move When the Spirit Says Move: The Legacy of Dorothy Foreman Cotton, and
on June 5th, we’ll have a conversation with people who knew her and are working to carry on her legacy.
August 28, 2024 Bayard Rustin: A key advisor to Dr. King and the chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Rustin was a tireless advocate for civil rights, nonviolence, and economic justice.
Sept 25, 2024 Zoharah Simmons: A Freedom Summer volunteer and SNCC member who later became a professor of African American Studies and Religion, dedicating her life to social activism and education.
October 23, 2024 Pauli Murray: A pioneering lawyer, activist, and priest who fought against racial and gender discrimination. Murray’s legal theories laid the groundwork for future civil rights legislation.
