This month’s New Moon falls in the sign of Libra, the great equalizer. Sometimes pictured as a set of scales, it weighs opposite energies and seeks to bring them into balance.
October is now known as Indigenous People’s Month in honor of those upon whose lands we currently live…the land originally called Turtle Island.
Tonight we are choosing to honor indigenous people with a look at their worldview, how they regard the more than human beings as kin, not commodity. They understand that this world is full of people, only some of whom are human. There is much that could be gained by following the indigenous kinship world view. One can only reflect on how different this country might now be had those who arrived 400 years ago come with respect and curiosity instead of guns and greed.
We cannot undo history but we can own it, learn from it and perhaps begin anew each in our own way to bring our lives into better balance and to walk more softly upon the Earth, greeting all we meet as beloved kin.
All are welcome.
