Volunteers: We need people, please! I’m looking for a few loving and caring people willing to sit with our children on Sunday mornings for RE to teach the curriculum with me. We rely on CORI’d people/volunteers to provide safety and learning for the children downstairs each week. You can let the DRE know you are interested during the service, coffee hour or by email/phone call! Our Annual Holiday Party for RE: We will be celebrating the holidays on Sunday, December 10. The children will be together from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. for gingerbread making, holiday crafting, food and fun.
RE Committee: Our next meeting will occur on Wednesday, November 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the church. There will be a virtual option if people are interested. Please reach out to the DRE at dre@uumiddleboro.org to get a link if needed. RE on Sunday Mornings: The children have begun to stuff their bears and add their first wholeness badges. So far we have had “team work,” “courage” and “best friends” badges go into our bears. We continue to consider this year’s theme of home and have considered our entrance into our homes, the symbols that connect us to our physical and spiritual home
This year the children will be exploring the concept of home, their family home, the homes of creatures of the earth, their spiritual homes and the homes of those outside our community and in the larger world. Our first lessons are about thresholds, and we will be decorating the threshold at church with pretty paper flowers.
Welcome Back, Everyone! Church starts at 10:30 a.m., and we will be meeting during the church service, downstairs after the Message for All Ages, around 10:45 a.m. Registration is rolling and can be completed at any time (see below). What does it take to make a home? This year we will think about this and what purposes and functions our home serves for both humans and animals. We will explore concepts of belonging, the role we play in our home and our community, and we will think
RE Children. We will wrap up our lessons and our Explore Beyond Our Walls in Ancient Greece and India with our last stories, The Brave Little Parrot and A Bundle of Sticks. We will be talking about courage, perseverance and cooperation. Youth GroupOur last meeting will be on June 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. We will plan for a summer cookout together and will plan for Pridefest. There will be some crafting during this evening for those who are interested in keeping their hands busy while we talk. There will also be pizza and ice
In May, as we Explore Beyond Our Walls, we will have an Indian and a Thai folktale. These will teach us about the golden rule making a difference in the world and about justice.
In April as we Explore Beyond our Walls we will present a historical Islamic tale, a story about parachuting cats in Borneo, and a Native American folktale. These will teach us about generosity, caring for the Earth, and empathy. We are hoping to start a special project for the end-of-the-year "gifts of thanks" that will relate to our Gems of Goodness and lessons from Moral Tales.
We will be meeting on Wednesday April 26, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
RE Children’s ClassesLast month we continued to “Explore Beyond Our Walls” with a Scottish Folktale and with a story with a Brazilian author based in Brazil. We learned about forgiveness and about putting ourselves in another’s shoes. Next month we will share stories about welcoming one and all and seeing others with awe with one story being from an Israeli author from the Middle East and another story being from a Catholic author in America. The Gems of Goodness have included stopping a bully on the playground, taking coloring items to the hospital for a friend and making Valentines for our families.
