- On Friday, June 14 at 7:00 pm we will gather in the Sanctuary for the 2024 Annual Meeting of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Middleboro.
- What happens at this meeting, and why is it important to you?
- We will elect new officers and members for our governing board (the Parish Committee, or PC). Here is the proposed slate of officers:
President: Jeff Giddings
Vice President: Vi Fairweather
Clerk: Lois Aldrich (already serving, term continues until 2025)
Treasurer: Stephen Larrett
Assistant Treasurer: Nancy Backus
At Large Member: Jim Bonnar
At Large Member: Diane Reed
These folks have all agreed to serve in these positions. Other nominations will also be taken from the floor at the annual meeting.
- We will give special, heartfelt recognition to members who are stepping down now from important positions.
- We will learn about all the wonderful work being done in our committees and all the incredible programs and events that took place over the past year.
- We will discuss and enact the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Our pledge drive was very successful. Your support of the church enables us to hire excellent staff and plan exciting programs.
- We will choose two members to attend the annual convention of our denomination.
- We will vote on adopting a Covenant for our Society. You may all recognize these words, which are read during each Sunday’s worship service as the “Unison Reading”:
“Creating a caring community is the promise of our church. To listen deeply, show compassion, build trust, and honor our differences: these things we covenant together.”
- The ”Warrant” (or Agenda) will be sent electronically to members on May 24. It lists the topics to be discussed and voted on. This gives you a chance to study the issues beforehand and ask questions of our current board members: Jim Bonnar, Vi Fairweather, Lois Aldrich, Marc MacQueen, Jeff Giddings, and Stephen Larrett.
- Everyone is welcome to attend the annual meeting and participate. Only those who have been members for at least 30 days may vote.
- We need your input on how to run the church! We are a democratic, congregationally-governed institution!
- So please plan to join us for this important meeting to help decide issues affecting the future of our church.
