Opportunities to Help Get Out the Vote Are you concerned about the health of our democracy? Would you like to be able to do something about it? Social Justice is joining other UU churches in sponsoring a letter-writing campaign to get out the vote. We feel that it is imperative that everyone who would like to vote has the opportunity to do so. It is also important that people who feel their vote may not matter understand that it does. Fill the Pantry Fundraiser
Matthew Mission Food Panty Fundraiser Riverhouse Restaurant Patio 260 W. Water Street, Taunton Tuesday, September 27, at 6:00 p.m. The Matthew Mission Food Pantry in Taunton is having a fundraiser at the Riverhouse Restaurant Patio. There will be a raffle, games, 50/50 drawing, Tarot readings. All proceeds will go toward providing food for neighbors in need. $75 donation includes hors d'oeuvres and a beer flight. (You are welcome to order dinner.) $100 donation includes reserved seating. To make a reservation, call 508-822-2107. Must be 21+ to attend.

Orange Shirt Day Standout
The Bridgewater Communities for Civil Rights is organizing a standout on the Bridgewater Common for Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) Residential School (1891-1981) Commemoration Project and Reunion events that took place in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in May 2013. This project was the vision of Esketemc (Alkali Lake) Chief Fred Robbins, who is a former student himself. It brought together former students and their families from the Secwepemc, Tsilhqot’in, Southern Dakelh and St’at’imc Nations along with the Cariboo Regional District, the Mayors and municipalities, School Districts and civic organizations in

BCCR (Bridgewater Communities for Civil Rights) is holding a Stand Out in front of Walgreen's in Bridgewater Center from 10:00 to 11:00. BCCR recently was successful in getting the town of Bridgewater to officially change October 10 from Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Please come and lend your support.....bring a sign if possible or just stand with us. We will also have a Stand Out on the church lawn from 11:30 to 12:00. Fundraiser contest with teams competing for trophies by following directions and answering questions along a specific route. Start times spread out over an hour. Entertainment, snacks and beverages provided at end while awaiting scoring and awards.Cars/teams start at Middleboro Town Hall Parking Lot. Gathering outside UU as teams finish for entertainment and snacks. Maximum number of teams = 20. Minimum of 2 per team (Driver and Navigator) and maximum of 4 per team (1 or 2 extra members to help with directions and answering questions). Severe weather date October 29.

We will have our annual church bonfire (aka, Halloween party with roasted marshmallows over a small grill) on October 30, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the church. We will play some of our traditional games – the bone hunt, toilet paper mummies, balloon stomp, donuts on a string and trick or treat as well as some new ideas.

The Wheel of the Year has turned once more bringing us to Samhain, the final harvest. Again, the year has been one of challenge and change for each of us and for our community. In our church family as well as the world at large, there have been losses of many kinds. Tonight we will depart a bit from our usual format. We will create sacred space and share in calling directions, lighting candles and sharing the meaning of Samhain, but we will also invite anyone who chooses to share a remembrance of someone or something they have lost either recently

Rev. Connolly and the Parish Committee invite you to sign up for one of the twelve cottage meetings that will be set up between October 12 and November 19. These meetings will be a chance for church members to meet and get to know the minister and Parish Committee members better. Virtual Just This Sangha
November 4, 11, 18, 25 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Just This Sangha meets virtually (via Zoom) nearly every Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 for silent meditation and sharing of our practice experience. From a Buddhist, particularly Zen, perspective, we focus on bringing practice to daily life; exploring letting go of our usual habitual reactivity and opening to ourselves and others as we actually are. We will continue scheduling weekly ½ hour vigils on Saturday mornings from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. In addition, we will be offering training to help us respond to folks with strong opinions.
